SBH SOLO Vikings VS Hunters of Evil

With my new love of Universal Battle, I have run yet another solo game. This time it was the under dog Vikings VS the Vet Hunters of Evil.

I set the game up like this. This was just an all out battle.

The Vikings are up north, with he Hunters from the south.
Turn one.
Vikings, and Hunters close in on each other. A few ranged attacks but no real action. Here is how it looked at he end of the turn.

Turn three is the last turn in the game, and had the most action.
This photo shows that the Hunters killed two vikings right off.

The final photo show how the Vikings routed after a G kill, and called it a game.

I am really just getting a handle on the rules, both SBH, and SDG. I am also having fun with UB.
So in the end I have had three battles.
Ratz vs Vikings with the Ratz winning.
Ratz vs The Hunters, Hunters Winning
Viking vs Hunters, Hunters once more.

So The Vikings really come out on top after losing two in a row. They picked up 15gp, plus the underdog bonus of d6x10 and I rolled a 6. So they end up with a grand total of 75gp to bulk up with.
Now I have done the exploration after each battle, and find it very hard to gain any thing from it. When you get some thing you have to roll a 6 on a d6. This is to hard. so in three games, I have rolled 6 time and have not gotten a 6. I think this need to be changed to 5+.

I have to stat up my Gor, and get them in top the action next.

SBH SOLO Game With Universal Battle.

I am killing two birds here with another solo SDG game, and testing out a new software to play miniature games online this time. First the software. Universal Battle

I came across this from the SBH Yahoo group. So I had to give it a try. Now this is a pay soft ware with free access but the later is very limited. I have joined the Pro version for a year @ $14.00 USD. They have a hole pricing plan that is very affordable. I would have joined the lift time plan but I want to mke sure it flies before making that jump, but that is only $29.00 USD.

So his is mostly Fantasy based, but you could fight Historical Midevil battls with it. I am sure they will add more content as they grow.
So you create and account (Pro) and go to the army builder. You are faced with a hold bunch of choices. So I made a Rat, and a Hunters of Evil warbands. I started with a base figure and out fitted it as needed. You can add armour, clothes, hair, color, weapons, shields, and more to each figure. Then you can store the stats for each miniature in side the information box. So here I stored the Q,C and rules. This information can be vied during the game.

Now I have the armies, I can save them to my computer to up load later, or share. To play solo I had to save both the Rat hord, and the hunters then create a blank army and load both warbands in to it. When you deploy you can deploy singles, or large number of the same for same WFBs.

Once deployed you use the rules of what ever system you want, and start the game. There is a die roller, chat, rulers, templates, markers, and tons of terrain to add to the game. All along you can save and come back to it. You can also save and share with every one. So you can make a map that every one can load and use. This is great for playing campaign games.

So over all it will take some time to get the hang of it, but it can be allot of fun. Also it will allow people how could never get together for a game play. Pair this with google voice, skype or some other VOIP software and it could be really work out.

Now here are the photos of the battle, but I did not focus on this, as i was trying to learn the system.

I had a few more photos to add but had some issues with Picasa upload rejecting them.

But any way you can see what I had laid out.

Now the Rats did not fare will this game, they got kill quickly, and gave up at turn 4, with 4 killed, and the leader being the second to go down. The Hunters did well. The after action was well boring. The Rats only lost one member, and earned 15gp. Had to pay 5 as the Leader was robbed while getting healed. The found a begger that took them for a gold. The Hunters got 20pg, and found a forgotten tomb and ended up with nothing.

So over all I look forward to playing this with some real people on the other side, but it is a great way to play solo, when I can not set up a table in the house.

News Update Update.

Update to my update. I won the auction for the beast men and only put one bid in. I for one can not believe I won an auction with only one bid. So I got the GW (yuck) Gor Herd.

They list for $24.95 from GW plus shipping, and I have seen them for $29.95 plus shipping from other sites. I picked them up new in box for $15.50 and $4.00 shipping for a total of $19.50. I know this is no great deal with you look at what I paid from 20 Vikings from Wargams Factory, but is is good for a GW product.

Well now I have to work up some stats for them and get them on my roster list.

Well today saw the multi based unit add-on for the USE ME 002 Fantasy rules. As I love the USE ME 001 SciFi rules, and have my units based in mass I was very hope full for this add-on. Well I am not feeling it at all! Sorry 15mm UK, but I can just as easily stick with Fantasy Rules 3. I wanted so much to switch but I can't.

I love the rules, but and how simple they are with singled based units. Groups of them will work juts fine. But the new add -on rules feel like a band aid. If I was not hooked on SBH I would use USE ME 002.

The next set of new is I have bid on some beast men and I hope I get them. With 3 Warbands for SBH I am hoping for another. If I do not get them I will be getting some minis from Mirliton.

Hunters of Evil Warband!

I have spent last weekend working up a new warband using bitz from Mordheim box set and my Wargames Factory Vikings. The theory behind this warband is a bunch of fanatics that hate Evil, and will stop at nothing to eradicate it. They will only use blunt weapons when they have become full fledge members of the group, and axes before this. There will all most all ways be one member that has some for of magic, in most cases he will have a book, or scroll that he can read to hold a foe while the rest of the band bashes the Evil from them.

Using the Warband builder here are my three warbands.

I have used the Warband builder, to try and make a roster that can be used for a campaign setting. Also I have made my own unit types, and to show the weapons on the roster I have made user rules, with 0 cost. So if you look at these rosters you can see what I have done. In the name filed I have names each model, stated type, and have the experience listed. To show the warbands gold I have created a user rule called WB Chest=#gp. This can be changed buy selecting to edit the rule. I will also be creating rosters with photos, now that I know how to do that.

I have two other warband rosters that I have not posted as I do not have minis for them. I used them to play in Battle Chronicler.

My Fantasy World.

Well I have all was wanted to create a world of fantasy that would work for every one. What I mean is this, with all the different systems out there you could never have a great campaign using these systems. I feel we should be able to. So many years ago GW (yuck) had an online campaign running and it was really cool. That is what got me thinking. Could this not be played by any one? I think yes. I feel if there is a base setup, a group from one area of the world playing HoTT could, and a group from another part could play WHFB, while yet another could play SoBH. With them all adding to the campaign. So how to make this work? I spent hours thinking of the world, and map, ending up with the current world called Earth. There are more then enough maps of the world out there on Google to use. This would allow groups to be placed on the map close to ware they are in the real world. Next a story line that would support this. Now I have come up with this but petered out. The Long Dawn here you can read what I have done. Now I am no writer, but the concept is a comet hits the Earth and causes a shift in the aliment of space and time. Portals open to all kinds of worlds allowing any fantasy race, or creature to come to Earth. But during this time of darkness, say a few hundred years, the history of the Earth is forgotten to some point. Now as the world come out of darkness the campaign starts. Armies now fight for territory and control over a piece of Earth.

I was thinking this could be done on large scale such as full scale battles, all the way down to skirmishes in Cities, using games like WHFB, Mordheim, HoTT, Fantasy Rules 3, SoBH, USE ME 002, Mighty Armies, Warmaster, or any other rules set I have missed. The beauty of this is you use the rules you have to play in a global Fantasy campaign. The campaign system would be very small.

This could be don a a blog, with battle reports sent in and a map updated on a web page.

Well any way I went so far with it and would be willing to go further, but I ran out of steam with the story line.

SBH SOLO Game With Battle Chronicler

I ran a solo games using the software Battle Chronicler. This was a fun project, and it dose take allot of time to set it up for the first time. Then there is the learning of the software, and how to use it. I was not able to use the failed activation roll, switch side turns with this but I adhered to the fail, and no go part.

Ratz turn four. Sickmaw attacks Bram and is killed him self.Twocrawler shoots at Bram for a kill. Clawles moves in and kills Eilif.

Vikings turn four. Frodi attacks and is killed. Stag and Grom pass morale, Gaunt, and fin get moved back. Finn attacks only to be killed.

Fun game, and I will work this up as a SDG game. I will make up two more rosters and add them to the campaign.

SBH game today with my daughter

Well we had an ICE day here in the New Jersey, so I wanted to play wit the new dice tower. My little girl and I play a small SBH game. It was vikings VS ratmen. We only got to turn 3 before we had to stop but it was fun.

I broke out my terrain and setup the table. I was the rats, and she was the vikings.
These two photos are the setup. I was on the more open side, but that was OK she needed the advantage. She needs to learn about tactics, as she lumped all he men in to a pile behind the center wall section. I tried to point ok she should run her bow men to the high ground. That did not work. I split my group in to three groups. I had slingers, and a rat warrior on the left. Boss and 3 rats in the middle, and 4 rat n the right.

My girl got the first go, and moved behind the wall on the left of the photo. While I opted to go right, with the group move action. I have never used it and it worked out great. We both went for the bridge.

At the end of turn three she had taken out 2 of my rats, and I failed every attack roll. Over all we had fun. The die tower worked great. SBH is a very kid friendly system.

Die Tower Second Post

Well I have completed this my first die tower. I took some of the suggestions for the comments and worked them into this tower. Thanks for you comments:-) I may take the same template in the future and make a SciFi version of it, but for now this will do. I did have a bit of an issue wit the dice going over the wall at the end. I put a lip to help and it did, but the problem seem to be the dice act as a ramp for other dice. the hit the dice and bounce right out of the courtyard. Well at any rate the will keep my son from scattering the dice all over the room.

Both my kids helped in making this, and are having fun using it for math. They love to roll the dice then add up the total. Also we have played a game the higher die wins. Over all a great project, lots of fun with my kids, and my wife was even impressed by it.

Die Tower!

Well I have all ways wanted to make one, but never really need to till now. Playing with my son (game of SBH) he kept throwing the dice all over the place. So I pulled out a TEMPLATE I got some years back. It called for thick card to be used, but I have opted for foam core. Now it is not finished yet but it is a work in progress. Also note that I used stained glass windows on this tower. I know it is hard to see but they are there. The tray at the bottom I whipped up as there was not one in the template.

Well I placed and order with 15mm UK around Dec 12 of 2010, and I just got it the other day. This sucked!!! I waited over a month for this order. Well I have this to say, I was in contact with Alex from 15mm UK sales and what a guy. I know there was very bad weather there, and with the holidays, then bad weather here in the north eastern US. So with all this I am still a very happy customer of 15mm UK, and will continue to order products from them.

What did I get? Well I got 10 men from the Laser burn adventurer range, and there new USE ME high fantasy rules. I will be working on a review of the rules, as well as slapping some paint on the mini this weekend, but chances are I will not get ether one done. Life interrupted:-(

The minis I got were the closest ones I could find to the Warzone Trenchers with out going to the WWI ranges of minis out there. There are all the same pose but I will try and change this up a bit. Any way they will fit in with my Praetorian, as special units.

For the rules I have been using ChipCo's Fantasy rules 2,3,TCE for years, and was also hoping for the new mass combat rules form Ganesha Games. I think they are stuck on one type of unit, and that is holding them up. So in waiting I have found USE ME SciFi and love them, why not have a go at the USE ME high fantasy. There is only one draw back at this time, and that is basing of the units. All mine are base for FR!3 on 40x40, or 40x20mm bases, and there rules are for single unit basing. So I have to read through, and come up with a way to play with my current basing. I have have been given ideas form both Alex (from 15mm UK), and the Yhaoo group on this conversion, so I am confident this can and will be done. If time allows for it!!!

Here come the Tua'ri Tanks!!!!

Some years back I picked up 6 of the alien tanks for Old Crow miniatures, they have been in a box for years. This pass weekend I decided to put them together, and make basses for them. I have 3 Tanks, and 3 APC.

I know they look the same, but they are not. The tanks have 4 guns (wing tips and cockpit), and the back of the tank tapers off. The APCs have the cockpit guns, and the back is taller, with a hatch for the troops to enter, and exit. But they do use the same wings, and cockpit section. Over all I love them, and they are easy to put together. All that is needed is some light sanding of the body, ware the cockpit connects. I did not need to pin any thing, and use the new gorilla glue (there super glue).

Well I have nothing, nothing new in my Fantasy world. I have been in the scifi mode for the last few weeks, http://theorky15mmscifi.blogspot.com/ has what I have been working on. I was spending the summer as I should and that is swimming, and having fun with the kids. One of the projects is to redo my Office/Painting room to make it more of a craft room for the kids as well. So I hope this will be done before the winter, when I do most of my painting. The problem is I have soooooo much computer stuff I have to cram it all into one small corner desk. Oh well I will post as soon as I can.

Here are 3 of my 28mm converted Wragames Factory Vikings. Using parts from the Mordheim box set, I have made them better fit a Fantasy setting. I started this war band for Mordheim, but have decided to go with Song of Blades and Heros or SBH.

Light Box Project

I have all ways wanted to have a light box for creating photos of my minis. Well I looked on the internet for years, and never wanted to spend any real money on this. So the other day I was looking at a post ware a guy was baking the green stuff on a mini. He had a simple set up, that looked like a coffee can with a hole in the side, and a light over the top. He took a close up photo of the mini in side baking and it was very clear to me. I thought this is it, I drink tons of coffee, and have more coffee cans that I have room for them.

Please note the minis photoed here are 15mm lizard men. I think this is a great way to bring out there detail, in such a small size.

Here is a photo using the light box.

So how did I put this together well it is very easy.
Items used.
*Coffee can
*Spray Glue
*Cardboard scrap
*3 Sheets of white paper
*Foam white kind
*Aluminum foil
*Paint
*Flock

First I cut the hole in the front of the can, then cut some foam for the bottom of the can. I then spray glued the foam in, and put the cardboard on the inside back also with spray glue.
Next I covered the back with 3 layers of white paper using spray glue for each layer. Then next to the cut out hole I put 1 1/2 inch wide strips of foil with spray glue. Once all was dry, I painted the bottom brown, then flocked it.

And now here is how it works and how I took the first photo in this post.

I think I will dress up the back drop and and some small items for better looking photos, but this is a great start, on the way cheap.

Snow Day turns into Snow Weekend!!!

OK I have not picked up the camera yet, but I have painted some more of the warband. I have 3 ready for play, 3 all most ready, and 3 half done. I made some good progress over the snowy weekend. I also took another distro of Linux out for a test drive. LinuxMint, based on Ubuntu, but more user friendly out of the box. What I mean by that statement is most of the non free content of Ubuntu is installed for the user during the install, and not after the install. By non free I am talking about Java, and Adobe Flash player. This makes it a much better version of Ubuntu for some one who wants to learn Linux. I have also spent lots of time with my wife and kids, and I hope to spend more time with them today.

Snow Day!!!

Well I had a snow day today, but needed to work from home. I did spend about an hour and a half painting. I worked on two more of the Viking warband, but did not photo them yet. I also started a third Viking. This third was the one I have seen people complain about. They do not like the running figure. Well I took this guy and gave him a Xbow. This guy is loading the Xbow on the run. I think he is very cool looking. Then I have my Orc trukk a second coat of paint.

We will see what tomorrow brings in the way of a snow day. I would love to paint more but I have a ton of work to get done at work.

Well I have been jumping around a bit, as you know from my last post. I have picked up Mordheim once more and seeing it is still popular on the net I was very happy. So I have been working on a Skaven warband, as it was left over in the boxed set I still have. I then decided I wanted a new warband to fight them rats. I went through eBay and did not find any great deals there. Then I got an email from one of my groups that pointed me to Wargames Fatory.com and there is was a Viking sample set. I thought I could mix and match some of the left over human bitz from the Mordheim box to give the Vikings a fantasy feel. I ordered 3 sets of 8 men from WF for $24.00 US. They to over a week to get to me, as the owner was sick. I sent them an email to check on the order and it was quickly replied to. WF more than made up for the delay, and I would love to order more minis from them when the money is there. I have to say the price is right for these minis, and the quality is very good. For the scale they are 28mm, but not the heroic scale of GW, so they are a bit small. I have started to put some of them together with the fantasy bits, and I have to do a bit shaving down to make them fit right. But so far they are looking great. I will have some photos soon.

Then I really started to take a look at the game I am seeing more and more of Song of Blade, and heros or SBH. I picked up the first book SBH and found it to be different from any of the games I have rules for. It is a very simple rule set, with allot of potential. It dose require the supplements to make it a complete games system. The author is very quick to reply to questions on the yahoo group, and direct email. I am happy to have picked up this system, and will probably use this over the Mordheim rules. For the price of $5.00 it is well worth picking up the SBH rule book. I have plenty of minis to build warbands in ether 28mm, or 15mm. The game was made for 15mm but is scalable to any scale. The rule set dose not require you to use a ruler but 3 sticks of different sizes. These are used for range, and movement. A simple d6 game, with no book keeping should make for faster game play, and cut down on wasted time. This means more games in an evening of play.

What Have I been up to????

Well I have kind of lost steam on my Dwarfs, as you can see from the number of post I have done lately. This is not to say I will not finish them, but I have changed directions for the moment. My first direction change was taking a transfer at work. This was closer to home but a more involving job title. The next change was I picked up my Grokamorka rule book and read it once more. I have been collecting the GM dudes once more, and putting a few mobs together. Then at the height of that change I was looking for a book in my office and found Mordheim. So I switched once more. At this time I am working on 2 war bands for Mordheim.

The war bands are this.
Skaven, and Reiklanders.

I have placed an order from Wargames factory for some Vikings that I will use. (note: I will not state what they will be use for I would not want to infringe on GW's IP laws). Why no new posts!!!

Well I have not been posting in a long time and this is partly due to a packed summer, and a new job role. With the summer being full with vacations, and weekend fun I was not able to work on my TTG stuff. I have also been given the a lateral promotion at work and I jumped at it. I am now closer to home, but have no time to work on TTG stuff. Things are settling down, but it is now fall and time to clean up the yard and get ready for winter so I am not sure if I will have time till early winter.

Well this is just an update and as soon as I have some content I will post it.

Well I have not been able to get much done as it is summer, and there is lots to do out side, with the kids. I have decided to change my focus a bit. I was spending all my painting time on my Dwarfs, but I forgot I have other stuff to paint as well. I have decided to alternate between my fantasy, and my scifi miniatures. So I will be painting 2 jigs of one then move to the other. I have also started a new sicfi blog sort of a sister site to this one. TheOrky 15mm SciFi. My first project there will be to work on my hoards of Orcs. I have well over 100 of the little green guys and they all need paint. Also I have a friend bugging me to play, and that is the army I want to use.

My Painting Desk!

I have seen a number of post on a number of boards as to ware one works (workbench, painting area), and I wanted to share photos of mine. The desk is an old secretary desk that I got from the family as a hand me down. To the left of the desk is a chest of draws I picked up and is great for storage. It is a reproduction of and old time post office desk set. This set me back a few $$$.

Here are my kids have a go at painting, and they love it. Good thing I have a bunch of old minis for them to paint.

New Dwarf bases!

Here are the photos of the bases I worked on over the holiday weekend. I painted up some Dwarf cav, and some Dwarf handweapons. I also re-based my Medieval foot knights form 4 to a base to 6 to a base. I have to finish the bases off with flock and such but I thought I would share the photos now.This is my first base of BRF mounted cav.

BRF Dwarf Battlewagon review!

Well I finished my BFR Dwarf Battlewagon this weekend,and I wanted to write up a review of this large model. I have to say I was putting off this model as it was a bit of a pain in the butt to work on. The photo below dose not really show this, but it was.

This was the first of my new Dwarf minis to work on, and it took me a long time to finish. I am glad I did finish it as it is very cool, but I am sure I will only have one of these in my army. I wish the photo did a better job of showing the model. To start this model was in many parts, had 5 dwarfs, two bolt shooters, and 2 large rams to move the beast on the field of battle.

Size: Holy crap is this thing big. I have mounted it on a 40x80mm base and there is no room to spare on the base. I did not add the small bits on the wheels as they would have gone over the sides of the base.
Parts: There were allot of parts to this model, and they did not all fit well. It took me a few hours of work to get it together only to have to take it a part to prime and paint. I was not able to put it together in one shot. I was forced to build it in stages.
Quality: Even with the extra work for rough casting this model has great detail to it. Now that its all painted and assembled the hole thing looks great.

How I put the hole thing together: I started by painting the 5 dwarfs that needed to go on the model. Once they were painted I painted the wagon's parts. Once I had the hold of the parts painted I went about putting it together. This was a complex task. I started by mounting the dwarfs, and the bolt shooter on the first floor, then put the sides and second floor on. After leaving the core over night I set about the second floor, then the roof. During the assembly I was stopping to do some finish painting. Once it was all together, and painted I set it to a base, with the rams, did some basing and I am done.

All in all this is a great model but I would not like to make another one. Some of the work I did on the inside was a waste as it can not be seen. This was allot of work, but worth it in the end.

A weekend at work!

Well I spent some time painting this weekend, and wanted to share what I did. I worked on another base of Dwarf handweapons, the BRF Dwarf battlewagon, and the BFR mounted cavalry on sabor tooth tigers. I also rebased some of my knights so there as 6 to a base. I will take photos of these this week and have them up soon.

New Painting Jigs.

Well today I created 2 new painting jigs to make painting units easer.
I took some scrap wood trim 1/2 by 3/4 cut and screwed them together. Then drilled 6 hole (not all the way through) to hold the nails.

Well I have had a good Father's day and the wife let me do some painting.

I like all the minis I picked up, but will not be getting any more from SL in the Dwarf range, as they are more like 20mm. I will be using the one I picked up but no more. The minis look great just to big for me. I did get a sample from SL of 3 orcs and will be buying these when I re-do an orc army. Photos of these soon.

Well I have not been working on my minis at all, I start to but get rerouted to another project, or have other plans. Well I am home today, and will be doing a hole house clean up. That means the kids will nap, and the wife will to. So I will have 2 hours to my self.

More Dwarfs in the collection!

I had a few bucks in my paypal account and decided to pickup a few more dwarfs for this project. I went to Old Glory 15s and picked up a bag of dwarf mounted. These guys are soooo cool! I also picked up a bag of bolista to use as artillery. I have 4 bases of cannons, and 3 bolista and I am not sure what I want to use. I am not sure if I want to go with black power in my army. I am trying to fit my army with the army form the R. A. S books, but this is not going to be as easy as I thought. I am going to have to say they are roughly based on the dwarfs from the books.

Well I have not been able to post or should I say I have not had any thing to post in a while. I hope to do some painting this weekend as it will be a long weekend in the US. I have the Painting 101 to finish, and post photos of them. I am also working on a battle wagon for BRF for the Dwarfs. I am not having fun building this one. I have no idea why I just not into it. It looks great I just not into it.

What Rules Do I use.

Well I was asked a good question!

The question was what rule set do I use? The answer is this ChipCo’s FR!3 (Fantasy Rules 3). A few years back I decided to make a jump into Fantasy gaming with all the hype about Warhammer, but could not see my self spending that kind of money. So I looked around the net and came up with 15mm as a cheaper way of getting into Fantasy gaming. So before I make this leap I need to find a rule set to use. I looked at a hole bunch before I settled on one. I also spent some money on rule sets. I can’t remember the first one I looked at, but it was not FR!. I can list some I have.

For the masses (MJ12Games)
Fantasy Rules 2,3, and TCE (ChipCo Games)
Warrior Heroes (Two Hour Wargames)
Armies of Arcane (Thane’s Games)
Warhammer (GW)
Demonworld (now defunct)
Hordes of Heroes (kallistra)
The Age of Might and Steel (15mm uk now has these rules)

This is my short list. There were others but none worth mention here. I know some might say I missed Hordes of the Things, but I did not peruse these rules, as I did not feel they were a good match for me.

The first I bought into was Demonworld, but soon realized I did not like the hex based system, and the high cost of the game. Next was some free downloads I found but none paned out. So I had a copy of Days of Knights from ChipCo games, and liked it, so I figured I would give there Fantasy rules a try. Yes they were a bit much in the price, but they were an all inclusive rule set. Once I had the rules there was nothing else to buy, but the miniatures, and game needs. This I very much liked about the rules set. Now I have continued my quest for the best rules set but keep coming back to FR!.

Every one has a different idea on what they want from a game and a rule set, so I have to say FR! Fits mine ware other rules fit others better. I will try a rules review some time but I am sure there are a number of people that have done so. A good Google search should get you what you need.

Completed my first base of Dwarfs!

Well I have finished my first base of Dwarfs and here are some photos.

Seen here I have based 4 Dwarfs on plastic card, then covered the base with a filler putty. I have given the putty a bit of color to make it easier to cover with paint and flock.

Now this is a completed base. I have added a bottom to the base of magnet, used for cards. You can get then in lots of 100 for about 10.00 US. With a pit of paint and some flock it looks good tom me.

First Photos of the Dwarfs

Well As promised here are my first photos of the Dwarfs I am working on. The Dwarfs are form the Black Raven Foundry range of Dwarfs. My photos show the new way I am painting 15mm miniatures. From these photos you can see they are mounted on a roofing nail then placed into a block of wood. This made painting the Dwarfs much easier then the way I did it in the past, by painting them on the 40x40 base. When painting I try to work on 2 bases worth of minis at one time, but I mis counted and only painted 7 and not the 8 required. I am going to work on completing one base today. I have mounted 4 of the Dwarfs, and filled the base to give it a better look than just flock.

Well I got my laptop running today with a new mother board. I also took the time to upgrade my operating system. No not to Vista, or XP sp3, but to Ubuntu 9.4!!! Man this laptop is running better than ever with Ubuntu 9.4, over Ubuntu 8.10

We I have been saying for a few weeks that I would be posting photos of my new Dwarfs, but alas I have not done so. I will continue to lie about photos till they are up on the Blog. If you are checking is from time to time I might surprise you with photos. Even though I have not taken photos I have worked on them. What I have done to the bulk of the minis is prep them for paint. I have set them into piles from each maker, so as to keep them apart till they are photographed. As most of the minis work well together I will be mixing them on the bases.

So I have filed down the bottom of there bases, removed the flash, and mounted them on roofing nails. What roofing nails? Why? Well I have found this is a great way to paint them. I use the nail shaft to hold the while I prim, and paint them. What I have done is take a block of wood, and drilled 8 holes in it. Now the roofing nails slip into the holes. So I have 8 guys mounted to the head of the roofing nails, and in the block of wood, off to be primed. This is the first time I have done this method and let me say priming the little men was easy, with good coverage and little build up.

Off to the painting desk. So I have applied 4 colors to my first 8 with the new method and am liking it. Before I would cram them on the base and try to paint them. I have even use the stick method, but did not like it.

This is going to be my normal for 15mm miniature, and I have a ton to be painted.

The last of the minis arived!!!

Well I was happy to come home and find the last of my Dwarfs at my door step today. I ordered from three companies, and am happy with all three of them.
Mirliton This is the one I ordered from first, and got last. This order came from Italy, and took two weeks to get here but was well worth the wait.
Old Glory 15s Black Raven Foundry was the last I ordered, and the first to arrive, only days to get to me. I have ordered from them in the past with the same great service.
Splintered Light Miniatures I ordered these the day before the BRF minis and got them today, but was informed they would be delayed due to a small back order. I was pleased to find a sample of there orcs, and goblins in the package. You get bonus points for that.

So now I am swimming in Dwarfs, it will be time to get to work on them. I know I stated in my last post I would have photos but I failed to take some. As all ways I had to just right in to building and painting them. Well I have the night off from the wife and kids so I will give it my best try tonight.

Painting in 15mm!! Ouch!!

Its been a year or two with out painting, now I have started my eyes are not the same. I have found my self needing magnifying, readers I have to paint these little fellas. But I will get them done, I hope. As I went through my paints I found I needed some, and off to my local store to get a few. I needed some primer and was shocked to see the price of GW's spray $15.00. It this time ware money is so tight I see this miniature painting, becoming a thing of the past. So I opted out of primer and will use auto gray primer. I did pick up a few pots of paint but will not be getting more from GW. Don't get me wrong I want to support my local game shope but not at these prices.

I have all ways been a cheap ass painter, and use craft paint for 90% of my paints. This might change. For metallics I have use GW or other paints just for miniatures as they have a finner pigment. I will be checking out what the craft paint have now. Last time I picked up craft paint it was .99 for a larg bottle not a pot, and I have a ton of them. Some comapnys are better than others but they are so cheap I don't care if I get a color and I don't like it. I will use that for terrain or give it to the kids to paint.

Back to the local game shops I wis mine sold 15mm stuf, but alas they opt for the more popular ranges of minis and games. I know the owner of my local shop, and wish I could help as i did when he oppened his store, but money is tight, and i hope he makes it through this tight time.

Some minis have arived

Well I got one of my orders this week, and got started on it right away. My order was from Old Glory 15s, and was from the Black Raven Foundry range of minis. Now I have had some of there minis in the past and love them. I had the Orcs, but have sold them off in order to pay some bills 2 years ago. I hope to buy more in the future but for now I am happy with my Human, Lizard man, and now Dwarfs.

So I got off subject there! What I got was a bag of 24 melee troops, and the War Wagon. I have started on the War Wagon and will post photos of these later today (I hope). I will also be posting photos of the troops as I get through them. I will try to do a scale photos when I get the others I have ordered.

Well I have been reading the R. A. Salvatore's books about Drizzt the Drow elf, and love them. I have got a bug to build an army based on the Dwarfs for this series of books.
